Adult Baseball Bats

Choosing the correct baseball bat can make all the difference when you're behind the plate. The 3 essential factors to determine just the right bat, are (A) The barrel size, (B) The bat taper, and (C) The bat grip. The length of the barrel at the top part of the bat and the diameter, both determine the size of the barrel. The taper is determined by the size of the barrel along with the diameter of the bat handle. A typical standard bat has a taper of 31/32". The 'sting' that occurs when the ball is not hit on the sweet spot can be minimized by using a bat that has a larger taper. By using a bat with a narrower taper, it not only makes the bat lighter, it gives the batter the advantage of being able to rotate their wrists during the swing. The 3rd consideration in choosing the right bat , would be the grip on the handle The grip helps to reduce the shock when connecting with the ball. Two types of grips that are commonly used are rubber and leather or synthetic leather. Leather allows the batter to have a grippier, more sure feel, and a rubber grip will of course absorb much more shock.

Understanding the weight-to-length ratio is important to know when choosing the right bat. When selecting the weight, you want something you are comfortable with, and depending on how you swing your bat and your strength. Stronger and more experienced players will get the most benefit from a heavier bat due to the heft and a more powerful swing. When you have a bat that is 34" in length and weighs 28 ounces, the weight-to-length ratio is a -6, just subtract the number of ounces from the length inches to get your ratio. A -3 ratio is the size commonly used in adult league games.
